Quick Tips to Reach Santa Barbara

UCSB is at about 8 miles from the City of Santa Barbara, right next to the Santa Barbara airport and surrounded in the North by the City of Goleta and the South by the Pacific Ocean.

Long Distance Mode Options

Santa Barbara Airbus  (from LAX)
https://www.sbairbus.com/page/display/laxshuttle

If your hotel is in Goleta or you reserved housing at Sierra Madre, Santa Rosa, or the Club your stop is GOLETA.

If you are staying in Santa Barbara or close to downtown Santa Barbara your stop is SANTA BARBARA.

Pickup locations are just outside the terminal arrivals at the GREEN signs (https://www.sbairbus.com/page/display/stops)

Rental car (from LAX)
Rental cars are located a few minutes outside LAX and all major companies run shuttles between the LAX terminals and the rental offices. You can also rent a one-way rental car that costs about $70.

The usual route is: from LAX to Intestate 405 and then US 101.  Check if there is too much traffic on 405 (usually congested) and take the scenic route (about 30 minutes longer but nice!).

The scenic route is: from the rental car pickup take Pacific Coastal Highway North / US-1 N (PCH). This will take you by Marina del Rey, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Malibu, Oxnard, and then 101 to Santa Barbara.

The US101 exit for Sierra Madre isexit 108 for Glen Annie/Storke Road, after the ramp turn left and continue on Storke for 1.1 miles, turn right at Sierra Madre Ct and Sierra Madre (check-in information will be provided by our housing staff).

The US101 exit for Santa Rosa is the Airport / UCSB (Route 217) off-ramp (approximately eight miles north of Santa Barbara), proceed through the Henley Gate at the east campus entrance (check-in information will be provided by our housing staff).

AMTRAK Pacific Surfliner (from Los Angeles Union Station)
If you are coming from Downtown LA or close to downtown LA your best option is the Surfliner (http://pacificsurfliner.com/#schedules)

The surfliner also stops at the Hollywood Burbank Airport (formerly known as the Bob Hope airport).

You can also fly to Santa Barbara (SBA)
Flights from: Dallas, Denver, LAX, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle

Last Mile Transportation

If you reserved Sierra Madre or Santa Rosa Housing, UCSB will run shuttles to pick you up from the SBA airport or the AirBus station in GOLETA.

If you reserved the Club we will ask you to give us arrival and departure times and make arrangements for you.  If you are staying in a hotel in close proximity to campus, your hotel most likely has its own shuttle (check at the front desk).

UBER and LYFT serve the Santa Barbara and Goleta area.  Around Goleta the rides are about $8-9.  Goleta to Santa Barbara is anywhere between $25 and $40.
